USAID and OECD support local partnership and governance in Croatia
Zagreb, May 28, 2007 - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Organization for Economic Development (OECD) Trento Center for Local Development will jointly conduct a workshop on local partnership and governance on May 28-29, 2007, at the Hotel Milenij in Opatija. Press is invited to attend on 29 May beginning at 9 a.m.
The international partnership models have brought together government, business and civil society organizations to design and manage local economic, social and employment programs and contribute to local governance. This approach assumes strong local participative governance and active cooperation between the local stakeholders and the relevant national government institutions.
This workshop will bring together over fifty participants from government, business, civil society and leading international experts on local partnership and governance.
USAID is the primary assistance organization of the United States Government. Since 1992, the United States has provided over $407 million to Croatia (much of it through USAID programs) to strengthen democratic institutions and assist in postwar reconstruction and the return of refugees, to support de-mining and economic development, and to provide educational and training opportunities. The U.S. has also provided guidance and support to the Croatian judicial and military sectors to further Croatia's integration in Euro-Atlantic institutions.
