Investing in Croatia's IT Future
USAID and Microsoft share the goal of stimulating the development of Croatia's information technology (IT) industry to support growth and job creation.
Last year, the City of Varazdin, USAID and Microsoft formed an alliance with Hewlett Packard, Cisco, and T-Com to open a Business Technology Center to support Croatia's information technology (IT) efforts. The Center, located in a modern business tower in downtown Varazdin, serves as a hub for training and testing new, innovative software products to independent IT entrepreneurs in Croatia.
The Center celebrated it's first anniversary in November 2006 and the results of this initiative are already visible. To date, the Center provided direct assistance to 145 independent software developers, helped create 15 new small businesses and 50 new software products were designed. The Center also trained over 460 participants from Croatia and other European countries.
Speaking at the event, Microsoft Director Davor Majetic stated that the Center's success was recognized in Slovenia, Romania and Bulgaria and that preparations are for similar centers in the region are under way.
USAID contributed $500.000 to this project whose implementation over 30 months will cost an estimated $2 million.
